THE BIGGER PICTURE: a celebration of stories
For some time now, I have been mulling over the possibility of starting a blog. I have always loved writing and so when I launched my website a few weeks ago, the prospect of a blog became clearer. But what was to be my focus? Obviously I am a photographer and I spend many hours looking through a lens as a visual storyteller, letting my images tell stories of rural life, love and the wonders of the natural world. BUT this blog is not about me. Festering in the background, has always been my desire to use my photography as a means to shine a light on others.
I am so fortunate to be surrounded by incredible women. They are, on the surface, very normal. They are wives, mums, sisters, daughters, just the usual, every day kind of women that you find in rural and regional areas. BUT, many of these women also have incredible talents and passions that deserve to be seen!
They deserve to be celebrated!
In establishing small businesses, they each have a unique story to be told; a BIGGER PICTURE to be discovered.
So, to celebrate some of the amazing women we have in our backyard, I shall endeavour to introduce you to one of them each month! (Ambitious? Yes! I’ll do my best anyway!)
Where does the inspiration for this blog come from?
As a small business woman living and working in a rural area, I often feel alone. I’m working hard behind the scenes to build my dream business, marketing, battling the grind of social media and constantly trying to build a broader connection within my area. I regularly have conversations with my friends about how difficult all this is and how draining it is to feel like no one is listening or getting the messages you’re trying to send out. I sometimes feel like I’m just a little ‘nobody’ in the middle of ‘nowhere’ – how on earth would people know that my business even exists?
Do you sometimes feel the same?
As a photographer, I have also done some branding photos for local small business women. I give them a gorgeous gallery of images and I give them a little plug on socials and that’s it! But I’m left with the feeling that I could do more. That these women are just like me; working hard, needing a little extra ‘boost’ every now and then and wishing someone would champion them, even if just for a moment.
So please, follow along! Come with me as I meet some beautiful, local women and read about their ‘BIGGER PICTURE’. Perhaps in reading their stories you might find likeminded people. You might find connection. Or you just might want to hear stories about why people do what they do and what drives their passion. Either way, you’re joining me in giving others a bit of support.
