My Corner of the Paddock

Welcome to My Corner of the Paddock!

I’m Edwina; photographer, mum, wife, farmer and blogger. It’s so lovely to have you here.

This is a space for me to share my photographic art and my thoughts and reflections on rural life as I experience it through my photography.  It’s NOT a place where I detail my personal life – you really don’t need to know all that boring mundanity.

In this corner of the paddock, you may get some photographic essays, an occasional recipe or two, a tour through my garden and a peak at the wool shed in shearing time.  It’s a chance for me to be mindful amidst the busy-ness of farm life, to reflect, write, create and share.

Documenting rural life was the instigator to me embarking seriously on my photography journey.  I have mentioned before how, it was in those dark COVID days, when lockdowns were endless, that I turned to photography as a means of coping with the isolation we all felt.  It got me out of the house, learning a new skill, going for walks, looking at nature and my surroundings in a different way.  I didn’t need to be around people.  I just needed my camera.

And thus, my love of documenting rural life has continued.  But what to do with it? It’s an arm of my photography business that seems to be for my pleasure only.  I share my rural imagery on social media and it resonates with people far and wide – but that’s about as far as it goes.  People like looking at pretty pictures online.  So do I!  But surely, it doesn’t have to end there?

And here’s another reason why I want to develop my corner of the paddock.  I want to keep evolving.  My business is in its early days and I’m still trying to discover all the wonderful possibilities that exist for a rural lifestyle photographer.

So, as this blog evolves, I hope to find connection.  I hope to reflect on the relationships we have with the elements, our land, our animals and our lifestyle.  And I hope that, as you follow along in these pages, that you can relate to the verdant greens of South West Victoria and the rich farming traditions that shape our lives.

Wow.  Lofty ambitions. Small steps Edwina! Lucky this girl loves a challenge.

Please come along with me and explore…
